Khost wa Fring

The correct english spelling is Khost wa Fring, but the title is mistakenly written khost wa fereng. Khost wa Fring is the largest district of Baghlan province with a population of 180000. Most of the people of Khost wa Fring are Tajiks (90%),and 10% of them are Sunni Hazara. They speak Persian. All people of Khost wa Fring are Sunni Hanafi, and there are no other tribes. The district was was part of Takhar province until 1970, and still its people go to Takhar for shopping more often than Baghlan. This is due to the long distance between Khost was Fereng and the center of Baghlan. The people of Khost wa Fring are Muslims. Most of them are Mujahid, and they belong to Jamiati-Islami party. The district was subdivided from one district (Khost wa Fring) into the districts of Khost, Fring, and Gozargahi Noor in 2003. Gozargahi Nor is a Persian word. It means "passage of light". This name was chosen by people as a memorial to the Afghan Mujahid Ahmad Shah Massoud. He passed the narrow valley of the district which is called Gharo when he wanted to go to Taliqan and Worsaj during jihad against the USSR. Khost wa Fring is the easternmost district in Baghlan province. Fring is capital of Hindu Kush mountains. The name of Fring comes from French word (Fringe) meaning "margin". The district is located in a margin and strategic point of the country. The Afghan National hero Ahmad Shah Massoud and current Afghan vice president Marshall Mohammad Qasim Fahim lived for a long time in this district during attacks by the USSR in Panjshir. The strategic importance of Khost wa Fring was clear to Massoud, and it was clear to USSR as well. An attack by USSR commandos in 1984 to Fring district made it more important. Massoud used this strategic point for a long time even during fighting against international terrorists and the Taliban. Khost wa Fring was the only resistant district in all of Baghlan province against the Taliban. The Taliban were never able to take the district. The people of Khost wa Fring are called kosti or khusti. The Islamic forecasts say that the people of Khost wa Fring will lead the world by Imam Mehdi Akher Zaman. [[[1]]] According to the forecasts Mehdi rises from Taloqan which is near Khost wa Fring, and the people which they follow him are named or Khusti after their original home.[2] A large group of Khusti people live in Takhar near Taloqan, and the place is called Khost deh.
